I have finally had the chance to post on the Chief's corner and I think I will start off by informing all of you that The Cedar Lake Fire Department will be celebrating its 68th year. I don't think people really know what we do besides fight fires. The Fire Department provides EMS and Fire protection to The town of Cedar Lake and unincorporated Hanover Township, we also provide mutual aid to our neighbors. The Fire Department is very active in the community we do many fundraisers both for the deparment and for other organizations in the community, in which we are extremely proud. We are very active in our schools both prevention, kids programs, boosters activities, and we raise money for scholarships for our local high school seniors. The Department members also participate in activities with the Ceder Lake Boys and Girls club. We are members of the Cedar Lake Chamber of Commerce and help with their activities as well. Our department helps with the food pantry both raising money and food and have been very sucessful doing so, it seems that we are always doing something. Once a year we have a car show, pancake breakfast, blood drive, open house, boot drive, Firehouse tours, and aTexas Hold'em tourny. Our members are also involved with their own churchs and youth sports, its not unusual to see one of our firefighters coaching or leading a community activity. I am extremely proud of our department. In the future I will provide some good public safety information, this article was just for blowing the departments air horns. Yours for the best Emergency Services, Fire Chief Todd Wilkening
